John Pantazopoulos issued the following statement regarding a development project at 30 Elveden Drive S.W. in the Springbank Hill community:
I have had the privilege to meet with Springbank Hill residents on several occasions, and I know how strongly people feel about what’s happening in their neighbourhood. The concerns around this proposed rezoning at 30 Elveden Drive S.W. deserve to be taken seriously.
We are talking about significant changes in a community that cares deeply about its future. It is entirely fair for residents to expect a real say in how those changes take shape. In fact, development in the city must be rooted in active engagement with impacted community members to ensure all voices are heard.
With the application now heading to the Calgary Planning Commission and eventually City Council, we have an opportunity to show what makes our city special. This is a chance to demonstrate that compromise is possible, and that Calgarians can play a meaningful role in shaping how we grow. It is imperative for both CPC and City Council to listen to the needs and concerns of impacted residents and ensure compromises are made where appropriate.
Residents have raised legitimate concerns about parking, traffic and the lack of up-to-date planning information. These concerns need to be recognized, reviewed and addressed whenever possible. That is how we continue to build trust and confidence in the development process.
I believe in thoughtful development, and that includes compromise and addressing legitimate concerns together. It means recognizing the need for housing as our city grows, while still respecting the character of existing neighbourhoods. It means listening early and often, and making sure community voices truly influence the outcome.
I’ll continue listening, and I’ll continue pushing for a better approach rooted in compromise, community input and common sense.
